DeepSeek releases V4.1 Flash under an MIT licence

DeepSeek released V4.1 Flash on September 10, 2026 and put it behind the deepseek-flash API name, routing the older deepseek-v4-flash names to it. DeepSeek calls it the smallest model in a new architecture family with native multimodal visual understanding, built for faster inference and higher throughput. Its pricing table lists a 1M context window, 384K max output, and standard rates of $0.30 per million input on a cache miss, $0.006 on a hit, and $1.20 output, halved off-peak.

Vercel adds a path for deploying OpenAI Agents API apps

Vercel published support on September 10, 2026 for building on the OpenAI Agents API, using Next.js, Functions, Queues and Vercel Sandbox together. OpenAI manages the agent loop and session state, while Sandbox runs the code the agent produces.

Vercel Sandbox expands from four regions to twenty

Vercel made Sandbox available in all 20 compute regions on September 10, 2026, up from four. Region selection is available on every plan; Pro and Enterprise teams can configure failover regions, which Vercel tries in order when a sandbox cannot be created in the primary. The default remains iad1 and pricing varies by region.

Artificial Analysis rebases its Intelligence Index to v4.3

Artificial Analysis announced Intelligence Index v4.3 on September 7, 2026. It upgrades Terminal-Bench from v2.1 to v4.0 with harder tasks, and replaces the tau-cubed Banking evaluation with AutomationBench-AA, its implementation of Zapier's workflow automation benchmark with a private test set. Evaluations with private questions or answers now carry 45% of the weighting, up from 40% in v4.2. Artificial Analysis calls it a subset of the changes planned for Index v5.

Next.js 16.3 adds experimental controls over how Turbopack chunks JavaScript

Vercel published the reasoning behind Turbopack's chunking on September 3, 2026, with new experimental options in Next.js 16.3. generateComponentChunks emits un-merged chunks beside merged ones so the runtime can fetch whichever is cheaper given what the browser holds. firstPageLoadPriority, priorityRoutes and clusters replace Turbopack's assumption that two thirds of sessions are one page. turbopackSharedRuntime also cuts a blocking request and about 10 KB per navigation.

OpenAI launches GPT-6 Astra, built around computer use

OpenAI released GPT-6 Astra on September 3, 2026, first to a limited set of organizations, then to ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise, the API, Azure and AWS Bedrock. OpenAI's API reference lists a 1.05M context window, 128K max output, an April 30, 2026 knowledge cutoff, and $10 per million input, $1 cached, $50 per million output. OpenAI reports 98% on FrontierMath Tier 4, 99.9% on ARC-AGI-3, and OSWorld 2.0 computer use in about 47% less time per task than GPT-5.6 Sol.

Google ships Gemini 3.8 Flash, its third Flash release in six weeks

Google released Gemini 3.8 Flash on September 2, 2026, three weeks after 3.7 Flash. It holds 3.7 Flash's introductory price of $0.75 per million input tokens and $3.75 per million output through December 31, 2026; standard pricing of $1.50 and $7.50 applies from January 1, 2027. It takes text, image, audio, video and PDF input, with a 1M context window and 64K output. A second variant, Gemini 3.8 Flash Cyber, targets vulnerability detection and patching, gated behind Google's Fairwind Program.

Meta released Muse Spark 1.3 on September 2, 2026, announced by Mark Zuckerberg on X rather than on a Meta page, and available through Muse Code and the Meta Model API. Axios reports a standard tier at $1.25 per million input tokens and $4.25 per million output, alongside a cheaper contributor tier priced in exchange for Meta training on submitted prompts and completions. It scores 48 on the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index v4.3, the highest of any Meta model.

Anthropic ships Claude Fable 5.1 and Mythos 5.1

Anthropic released Claude Fable 5.1 and Claude Mythos 5.1 on September 1, 2026. Fable 5.1 holds Fable 5's $10 per million input and $50 per million output, but cache reads drop to $0.25 per million, 75% less, which Anthropic estimates cuts typical workloads by about 25% and highly agentic ones by up to roughly 45%. Anthropic reports 55.8% on Terminal-Bench 4.0 for Fable 5.1 and 60.9% for Mythos 5.1, which is the same model with different safeguards, limited to vetted organizations.

Vercel shipped in-dashboard agent creation on August 28, 2026. The builder scaffolds the agent's code, pushes it to a connected Git repository, and creates a Vercel project wired to AI Gateway models, a web chat or Slack front end, and MCP connections, so a deployed agent exists before any local setup.

It holds one persistent Claude session per Slack thread, streams research briefs with their sources back into the thread, and needs no Slack credentials managed by the app itself.

Z.ai released GLM-5.3-Flash on August 26, 2026. It is a mixture-of-experts model with 320 billion total parameters and 18 billion activated per token, on a hybrid architecture combining linear and sparse attention, with a 1M token context window. It accepts video, image, text, and file input, and Z.ai highlights native visual capability for observing interfaces and interaction feedback. On the GLM Coding Plan it carries three times the quota of GLM-5.3.
