OpenAI updates the Model Spec for the first time since December
OpenAI published a new version of the Model Spec dated August 18, 2026, its first revision since December 18, 2025. The changelog lists added clarity on appropriate relational interactions for teens, clearer handling of requests built on false or unsupported premises, removal of outdated guidance on how pre-reasoning models should think through a request, and a new section titled 'Be clear about capabilities and limits'.

Agent Plugins 1.0.0 ships as a vendor-neutral standard
Agent Plugins 1.0.0 was published on August 6, 2026 — an open specification for packaging Agent Skills and MCP servers as portable plugins. A plugin is a directory with a plugin.json manifest and fixed locations for its components, so one package loads across any compatible client. Vercel initiated the proposal; AWS, Anysphere, GitHub, Microsoft, and OpenAI refined it collaboratively. It is supported at launch in ChatGPT, Codex, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Kiro, and VS Code.

OpenAI cuts GPT-5.6 API prices by up to 80%
OpenAI lowered API pricing on its two cheaper GPT-5.6 tiers on July 30, 2026: Luna dropped from $1/$6 to $0.20/$1.20 per million input/output tokens (an 80% cut), and Terra dropped from $2.50/$15 to $2/$12 (a 20% cut). The flagship Sol tier stayed at $5/$30. The new rates apply automatically to standard API usage, no code changes required.
