Anthropic splits Claude Fable 5 access: free on Max, credits on Pro

Anthropic reversed course on pulling Fable 5 from subscriptions: as of July 20, Max and Team Premium plans get Fable 5 permanently at 50% of standard usage limits. Pro and Team Standard users instead get a one-time $100 usage credit, after which further access runs at API rates ($10/M input, $50/M output tokens).

Builders on Pro who lean on Fable 5 for heavy output-token workloads will burn through the $100 credit fast — a session producing 2M output tokens costs exactly $100. The split effectively pushes serious Fable 5 usage toward Max or the API.
