OpenAI launches GPT-6 Astra, built around computer use
OpenAI released GPT-6 Astra on September 3, 2026, first to a limited set of organizations, then to ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise, the API, Azure and AWS Bedrock. OpenAI's API reference lists a 1.05M context window, 128K max output, an April 30, 2026 knowledge cutoff, and $10 per million input, $1 cached, $50 per million output. OpenAI reports 98% on FrontierMath Tier 4, 99.9% on ARC-AGI-3, and OSWorld 2.0 computer use in about 47% less time per task than GPT-5.6 Sol.

- The headline capability is driving a computer rather than answering in a chat box, which is the part that turns an assistant into something that can finish a task in software you already use. It is also twice Sol's input price, so the choice is a real one rather than a free upgrade.
